You may know that the last first of July, there were elections for the president of my country, Mexico. The institution that runs the elections is the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE). Here's the website:www.ife.org.mx The scenario for these days after the elections is tense and complicated, and we need your support.

Elections are a very complicated and painful issue in the history of my country. For 70 years, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) ruled Mexico, through electoral fraud, perfected and refined each election. To operate all the machinery, the PRI established and spread throughout the country a political culture of bribery and corruption which includes, among other things, vote buying, theft of ballot boxes, vote tampering and suspicious "crashes" of the system that counted the votes.

Twelve years ago, in 2000, an opposition party won for the first time the presidency. That was largely thanks to the work of many citizens that forced elections in Mexico to more transparent, and that the government couldn't manipulate the elections.

Today my country is in a difficult situation after the elections and many of us see that Mexican democracy could be in danger. Since the beginning of the campaign was claimed winner the PRI candidate, Enrique Peña Nieto. This was largely the work of the television and especially Televisa, the largest Latin American television company. The British newspaper The Guardian published in early June this year that Peña Nieto would have paid Televisa while governor of the State of Mexico to have favorable coverage and to attack his closest challenger in this election, the candidate for the left, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Another meaningful event close to that time, was the attendance of the PRI candidate to the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, where there were numerous demonstrations against him. These were not released in most media, but we saw the videos on the social networks. In an interview, the leaders of the PRI and the Green Party that goes in coalition for the candidacy of Peña Nieto, said that the demonstrators at the University were not students, but agents of other parties trained and brought about by force (acarreados). In response, 131 students from the Universidad Iberoamericana made a video uploaded to Youtube in which the showed their university ID's and asked to be recognized as students. This is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7XbocXsFkI Thereafter # YoSoy132 (I Am 132) movement was born, to which many young people joined to protest against media manipulation and age-old practices that PRI didn't change in the twelve years they were out of office.

Throughout the election campaign there were many elements to suspect that the PRI did not act fairly. It was alleged that they had exceeded the campaign spending that Mexican law allows. There was violence and attacks by young members of PRI against # YoSoy132 movement members. There was also evidence that there would be operatives for vote buying the election day, that means giving money, food or anything else in exchange for votes for his party. In Mexico this is a crime. A few days before the election, were discovered 1.8 million cards from the supermarket chain Soriana distributed by PRI, probably used for vote buying. http://www.jornada.unam.mx/ultimas/2012/06/28/162232067-acusa-prd-al-pri-de-repartir-un-millon-800-mil-tarjetas-de-soriana-con-mil-pesos-en-edomex It was asked to the IFE and the Electoral Tribunal of Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) to freeze the accounts of those cards, but these institutions refused. http://www.jornada.unam.mx/ultimas/2012/06/27/182652276-rechaza-ife-congelar-cuentas-del-pri-con-monex

After the election Enrique Peña Nieto has been taken for winner. However, his alleged victory is not yet legal. So far we only have the results of the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP), which has no legal validity to determine who is the winner of the election. This is the webpage of the PREP: https://prep2012.ife.org.mx/prep/ The winner of the elections can only be determined after the count in all electoral districts. The media and the president, Felipe Calderon, have already publicly stated that the PRI candidate is the winner, even if it is not yet a legal fact.

We have reason to doubt the results of the PREP. First, thanks to the civic organization, we have pictures of the results published in the places where we went to vote. These results do not coincide in many cases with the results recorded in the PREP. http://www.contamos.org.mx/reports Moreover, in many of the boxes the number of votes exceeds the number of voters on the roll call. http://www.auctor.tv/Extras/IrregularidadesPrep100.html Finally, the evolution of the PREP mismatch in mathematical terms with what should be a random evolution. http://www.colloqui.org/colloqui/2012/7/2/primer-analisis-de-las-elecciones-en-mexico-2012.html

What we would like to ask you as a foreign citizen is your support so they do not recognize Enrique Peña Nieto, the PRI candidate, the winner of the election, at least until the counts are made in all electoral districts and all the lawsuits that have been made to PRI for electoral offenses are resolved. This is very important, as international pressure will force our institutions to act responsibly. I ask you to send letters to the president of your country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or equivalent, the ambassador of your country in Mexico, the UNO and the media in your country, and ask them not to recognize the victory of Enrique Peña Nieto until Mexican institutions do so in accordance with the provisions of the law.

We wish a better world, where citizens have governments that work for them, that know that the power belongs to the people and its theirs only temporarily and for the good of the people. We need your help for this.

Thank you.
